The Ensemble's July 2006 production, Shakespeare's Briefs - or - Let's Kill All the Lawyers! will take place in an actual courtroom. This 45 minute show brings together some of Shakespeare's most memorable trial scenes to examine his treatment of justice and judgment. In an Australian first, the Banco Court of the Queensland Supreme Court Complex will become a hyper-realistic set for some of the most famous and infamous Shakespeare trials - including The Merchant of Venice and The Winter's Tale, and featuring guest judges drawn from the bench of the Queensland Supreme Court. Opening with a spectacular gala event on 17th July and continuing with hour-long lunch time and early evening performances throughout the week, Shakespeare's Briefs will be a part of the World Shakespeare Congress, a quinquennial celebration of the Bard's works to be held in Brisbane for the first and only time from 16th to 21st July. Let's Kill All the Lawyers is supported by the Supreme Court Library and follows in the wake of QSE's critically acclaimed "re-gendered" Comedy of Errors.
