Metamorphoses
download flyer front: medium | large Are you game to face your shadows? By popular demand, QSE revisit their Matilda Award-winning production of Metamorphoses, featuring selections from Tales From Ovid by Ted Hughes Do you have the passion to face your shadows and transform yourself? asks the Queensland Shakespeare Ensemble (QSE) in their upcoming production, Metamorphoses, opening at the Visy Theatre, Brisbane Powerhouse, on 12 March 2008. Metamorphoses - or 'multiple transformations' - awakens the power of ancient myths in our contemporary lives by exploring British poet laureate Ted Hughes' translation of Ovid's poetry. This vibrant piece celebrates the transformative power of human passion and alerts us to the shadows we try to suppress. Visionary director Jo Loth returns after her much-loved 2007 smash Much Ado About Nothing at the Roma Street Parkland, QSE's most successful production to date. Metamorphoses revisits tales explored in the 2006 production under Leah Mercer's Matilda Award-winning direction and also delves into previously unseen tales. The performance features members of the core ensemble under the expert vocal coaching of QSE Artistic Director, Rob Pensalfini, and an evocative live score composed and performed by Gavin Edwards. Come on a journey with QSE through the darkness and beauty of our mythology to discover what happens when our suppressed shadows bubble to the surface. "An absorbing production... driven primarily by the power of the words." (The Courier Mail)
