Articulation and clarity of thought are also covered. This course is repeatable and those with experience will refresh and deepen their connection to the work. Led by QSE Artistic Director Rob Pensalfini, a fully certified Linklater teacher and a senior lecturer in Linguistics and Drama at UQ.

 ACTOR TRAINING

Speaking Shakespeare in your own voice

Connect to the audience without fear

Find a deeper connection to Shakespeare's words

Tell your personal story through the words of the character

Develop specificity and an ability to think clearly while emotionally engaged

QSE's basic training course is designed to remove the distance between you and Shakespeare's words. Past students have noted the compassion and care exercised in dealing with what is often personally confronting material, and the clarity, confidence, and joy the training engenders. Small class size ensures each participant will receive personal attention. The course is offered four times in 2007 and is repeatable:

Block 1 - Sundays in April - 13, 20, 27 - 12noon-4pm
Block 2 - Sundays in May - 4, 11, 18 - 12noon-4pm

 Auditioning with Classical Text

Discover your personal connection to Shakespeare's words

Develop confidence in your ability to perform under pressure

Find ways to be flexible and incorporate whatever your auditors ask of you

Practice "hosting the room," by keeping centered and present in the audition

Auditioning for drama school? QSE's class is not about giving you a polished, inflexible product, but about helping you find yourself in Shakespeare's words so that you can speak clearly and truthfully no matter who's in the room. Small class size ensures each participant will receive personal attention.

Block 3 - Saturdays in November 8, 15, 22 / 12noon-4pm

 Customized Training

Is your group having trouble being heard?

Acting Shakespeare for the first time?

Looking for a unique way to foster teamwork?

QSE training is at the heart of the company's philosophy. The Ensemble can customize one-off workshops or a whole training series to meet the needs of your school, work or community group. Courses may consist of simple, repeatable voice exercises and/or introduce acting tools such as personalization, working with verse structure, rhythm and the First Folio. Training in Theatre of the Oppressed games and methodologies are also available. QSE can help with Shakespeare script analysis and provide techniques for creating an ensemble and opening up your actors' or group members' connections to language, making your rehearsal process, class experience or development session effective and meaningful. Dr. Rob Pensalfini, a Senior Lecturer in Linguistics and Drama at the University of Queensland, is also available to lead talks on a number of topics including Shakespeare's English, Taking Care of Your Voice, Shakespeare's First Texts and others. Contact TRAINING more information.

QSE has provided customised training for the World Shakespeare Congress 2006; the Alternatives to Violence Project (Inc.); Borallon Correctional Centre and the University of Queensland's Underground Productions and Institute of Continuing & TESOL Education.  Our Philosophy

QSE believes that theatre is at its most powerful when actors work with clarity, honesty, vulnerability and generosity of self. The Ensemble's training programs centre on engaging the whole actor (body, mind, voice and spirit) with the words, while keeping a connection to scene partners and the audience.

 Our Alumni

Our alumni have been accepted into the Victorian College of the Arts, the University of Southern Queensland, Shakespeare & Company and other esteemed acting programs. Alumni have also performed with Queensland Theatre Company, La Boite, Sydney Theatre Company, Grin & Tonic, Harvest Rain, Brisbane Arts, EDGE Improv and more.
