The women of SQCC present a gripping fantastic tale of betrayal, revenge, justice, imprisonment, restitution, and mercy in Australia's first production of a Shakespeare play by incarcerated women.

In popular tradition, if not in fact, The Tempest is often thought of as Shakespeare's final play. It is in many ways about saying farewell. Prospero, a deposed Duke and a powerful wizard, wracked with a desire for justice and revenge against his brother and former ally, marshals all his supernatural forces to wreak havoc on them. Seeing the power of love through the awakening of his daughter, who remembers no human companion other than him, Prospero comes to find freedom in mercy, seasoning justice. He says farewell to his art, his grudges, his island prison, his powers, as he knows he will one day have to say farewell to life itself.

The cast chose this play because of its mystery, its music and magic, its broad and charming comedy, its tenderness, and its insight. Their performance promises all the energy, comedy, romance, and passion that this masterpiece deserves.

Each performance will be followed by a Q&A with the cast and morning/afternoon tea.
